11th Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing

International Researchers Discuss Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Manufacturing Worldwide

200 scientists from more than 30 countries met from September 23rd to 25th to discuss innovative solutions for environmental, social and economic challenges for sustainable manufacturing. 135 contributions were presented to the public. In the focus of the discussions was the international perspective of sustainable manufacturing. Other topics were, among others, material and resource efficiency, product design, product life cycle and sustainable production processes.

A special event was held in the afternoon of September 24th when the collaborative research centre (CRC) 1026 "Sustainable Manufacturing – Shaping Global Value Creation" presented its research projects and preliminary results to the experts in the testing field of the PTZ. In many inspiring conversations, the researchers discussed the interdisciplinary approach of the CRC and concrete possibilities of cooperation for sustainable global value creation.

On the last day of the conference examples of global research in sustainable manufacturing were discussed and in the evening the conference participants let the event end with a Berlin evening in the testing field of the Fraunhofer PTK.

The Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing, this year under the topic "Innovative Solutions" takes place every year in changing cities. This year it returned for the first time to Berlin, the scientific hometown of the conference chairman, Prof. Dr. Günther Seliger of the TU Berlin. The 12th Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing will be held in Malaysia in 2014. Find further information on www.gcsm.eu
